About This Lesson

The lesson begins with students engaging in a whole-class review of how to find the median, range, and IQR, with IQR being the main focus. Following the review of the warm-up, students are introduced to the five-number summary of a data set. They then use that information to create a box plot. Lesson objective: Students will be able to display and analyze numerical data using box plots. This is the sixth of seven statistics lessons. Aligned with Common Core State Standard: 6.SP.4

This is an excellent full package resource for Box Plot diagrams. The in-class handout is a good exercise to walk through with the students to help them grasp the details. The Box Plot is one of the fairly unique graphs/diagrams, so multiple practice/walk throughs will help the students. Thanks!
