About This Lesson

DiVid is a free daily number puzzle, and the mathematics it necessitates is the reason it works in the classroom.

Every day, students work with a 5×5 board of digits. They chain up to four touching tiles, add them, and bank the chain only when the total divides exactly by the round's key number. That single rule draws on several skills at once: fluent mental addition, a working sense of divisibility and factors, estimation of whether a chain will land on a multiple, and the strategic planning of which tiles to take and which to leave.

Because the key number changes every round, no chain can be memorised; each one must be reasoned.

Five rounds of 45 seconds make a complete game in under four minutes: short enough for a lesson starter, a tutor group session, or an end-of-period filler. In addition, 'hard mode' strips away the visual cues, creating an extension task.

There is no cost, no advertising, and no account required to play the daily game. It runs in any browser, including phones, tablets, and laptops.

If you feel it has value, sharing the link with fellow staff and students will mean a great deal.
