About This Lesson

Essential Question: Who is Dolores Huerta, what role did she play in the United Farm Workers movement, and how is she recognized today?

Overview: In this lesson, students will explore the life and legacy of Civil Rights Icon Dolores Huerta. In addition to listening to the traditional Spanish song “De Colores,” they will  listen to Alice Bag’s song “A Street Called Dolores Huerta,” which was inspired by a poem by Nikki Darling, and compare it with the poem “Huelga” written by Diana Garcia.
