Introducing Hispanic Heritage Month in Coffeeville, Mississippi
Since my students knew NOTHING about Hispanic Heritage Month, I decided to introduce it to them. Since I am an Agriculture Educator, I chose to include lessons on Farming and workers in/of Hispanic Heritage. Cesar Chavez was my immediate choice and I could not talk about Farm workers (especially migrant farmworkers without including Dolores Huerta) Your resource provided great background information on her as an activist who worked beside Cesar Chavez. As an African American working in a predominately African American school, I felt compelled to share this story of farming in America. So much is omitted in history and this is a very important event in the story of farming in this this country.
