About This Lesson
The students design their own house. They calculate the square footage of each room they build with a price associated for each type of room per sqft. They print out floor plans from the internet, both for inspiration and research. They then take measurements from home, sketch out a rough draft, and then complete a final larger draft, all to scale. The kids like the creative aspect of it, and learn not only a practical application to the content, but also a little but about the real world. Plus nearly all of them come up with some pretty creative designs.
