Dynasties of China takes students on a journey through the succession of dynasties that ruled China for nearly two thousand years. Students explore the Qin dynasty and the first emperor, Shihuangdi, who began building the Great Wall; the Han dynasty, when trade in silk and spices flourished along the Silk Road; the Tang and Song dynasties, which introduced such inventions as the compass and gunpowder to the world; the Mongol invasion led by Chinggis Khan and the Yuan dynasty founded by Kublai Khan; and the Ming dynasty, which founded China’s capital at Beijing and built the Forbidden City.

This unit includes a Student Reader, Timeline Image Cards, and a Teacher Guide, providing Guided Reading Supports and the following Additional Activities: a virtual field trip to the Terracotta Soldiers; “The Wonderful Chuang Brocade” Chinese folktale; domain vocabulary activity pages; art activities about calligraphy, hand scrolls, and porcelain; and a Unit Assessment.
