About This Lesson
During this lesson students will get the chance to read a pro and con speech about real voting rights legislation (the Freedom to Vote Act) being discussed in the United States Senate. Students will summarize the speeches, consider their arguments, and use them to enhance their own knowledge on election policy. Students will then participate in their own discussion on election policy to demonstrate their understanding and share their views.
This lesson was originally designed in conjunction with the Edward M. Kennedy Institute's award winning Senate Immersion Module but can now be used as a stand alone lesson in your classroom!
