About This Lesson

ELEMENTS OF GRAPHS AND LINES:
A 10 DAY UNIT PLAN INCLUDING LESSON PLANS
INTENDED FOR 8TH GRADE MATHEMATICS CLASSROOMS
This unit plan and accompanying lesson plans were created as a class project for my Single Subject Mathematics class in my math credential program at Alliant International University. The rough draft was reviewed by an expert, experienced teacher and by the course professor. This unit plan extends the use of variables such as x and y. These variables are used in the form of linear pairs, which identify points on a graph. The unit explores graphing points, joining points to form lines, and creating tables, identifying patterns, developing rules, creating graphs, and predicting points on linear graphs. Effort was made to provide differentiation and use of technology to keep the topic useful and interesting for each unique student.

Standards

Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships represented in different ways.
Understand that a function is a rule that assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of an input and the corresponding output.
