About This Lesson
Did you know that overdose deaths among young people aged 10-19 doubled from 2019 to 2021? According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), synthetic opioid fentanyl is the leading cause, lurking even in small doses. Shockingly, in 2020 alone, fentanyl played a role in 76% of drug deaths among individuals aged 14-23.
Teens, families, and educators must understand the dangers of fentanyl and take preventive measures against overdose deaths. Raise awareness and dispel myths about fentanyl, empower students to make healthy choices, and foster open dialogue. By engaging in activities such as reading informational text, practicing critical thinking, making informed decisions, and improving communication you can arm students with the skills they need to navigate this dangerous landscape.
