About This Lesson

Energy Transfer in Chemical Reactions - Legends of Learning

In this series of games, your students will learn about the release and absorption of energy in reactions. The Energy Transfer in Chemical Reactions learning objective — based on NGSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research.

This lesson is accompanied by ten (10) standards-based science games and a teacher-crafted lesson plan, which can be found at the following link: https://www.legendsoflearning.com/learning-objectives/energy-transfer-in-chemical-reactions/

Standards

Develop a model that predicts and describes changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed.
Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after the substances interact to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred.
Undertake a design project to construct, test, and modify a device that either releases or absorbs thermal energy by chemical processes.
Develop a model to illustrate that the release or absorption of energy from a chemical reaction system depends upon the changes in total bond energy.
