About This Lesson

Children will observe and document the activity of the birds on the playground; students will create bird feeders with materials of their choice, predicting what materials will work and what the birds will eat. Students will graph the number of birds seen at the feeders and the time of day. Class will read non-fiction books related to birds. This lesson could evolve into creating bird houses after discussion of bird habitats. The local zoo will bring birds and discuss the concept of endangered species. The class takes a field trip to the zoo each spring and will visit the Aviary.
