In 2009; I published a children's book titled; 'Midland Magic - A Journey Through the World of Figurative Language.' Throughout; it explains figurative language to children and provides a strategy for teachers; parents; and students to learn these important literary elements. The central characters in the book have been made into dolls I call 'Reading Buddies.' Students find examples of figurative language during silent reading or read aloud time and earn a Reading Buddy for the day.
