Fantastic introduction to German. Start off with a 'test' - i.e. show them how many words they already know. Then there is a codebreaking exercises for students to decipher cognates - they simply look at the grid to see what the underlined German letters change to in English and work out the meaning of the word. This builds on to 'magic sentences' where they use the last slide of the ppt (color-coded for gender) to build simple sentences from the words they have decoded. Magic sentences 2 does the same thing with verbs.
