About This Lesson

This poem by children's author Roger Hurn; enables you to demonstrate how a poet chooses words carefully to craft a poem. Read the class the poem and explain how it builds up a sense of excitement at the impending arrival of snow; e.g. every third line of the first four verses repeats a warning that a snowstorm is coming.. Then; when the snow finally arrives how the poet extends the length of the verse and uses a collection of verbs to create the impression of movement; e.g. pushing; shoving.
