About This Lesson

This exemplar on the Gettysburg Address provides students with the chance to examine word usage and author's intent at in-depth levels within a historically noteworthy text. It is chunked into sections, allowing the instructor to monitor comprehension and provide opportunities to scaffold or increase rigor as needed. It is comprised of an easy-to-use set of guided text dependent questions and instructional hints and strategies, and concludes with a rigorous summative writing task. Its appendix contains several extension activities for both ELA and history, including videos and word study.
