About This Lesson

Introduction: We remember the victims of the Monterey Park shooting, of the Club Q Shooting, and the 11 victims shot and killed at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pennsylvania, as well as the injured police officers. We also remember the Orlando shooting at Pulse nightclub, where a gunman shot and killed 49 people and wounded 53 more, and we remembers the murder of parishioners at the Charleston AME church by a white supremacist. Hate crimes are occurring at a startling level.

Objective: Students will complete a discussion of the disturbing trends of hate crimes in America supported by a snapshot of which communities are most affected. Students will also discuss policy proposals designed to prevent further hate crimes.
