About This Lesson
The Ecologist magazine, the world's most widely read environmental magazine, has made this movie about the toxic trade of leather production in Bangladesh. The river is polluted by the many toxic chemicals, causing people to have serious health problems.
This video is informative for how consumers desire for cheap leather goods can affect the people living in the communities around the tannery. Would be good to have students track their shoes or any other leather item to see if it came from a tannery that did not regulate their chemical usage and polluted the waterways.
