The 45th President of the United States uses the term "fake news" a lot in his responses to the press corps.

Is he referring to entire news stories or is he referring to the men, women, and news outlets that report on every aspect of The White House. Or both?

A recent survey found that many students can not distinguish between real news versus fake news. In order to develop student's digital critical literacy it is necessary to firmly establish in their minds the specific criteria journalist consistently use to write news stories.

This introductory activity is designed  to engage students throughout the year on the topic: identifying fake news. Included in this activity are famous April Fools' Day news items and extension activities for students to reinforce their initial learning
