About This Lesson

The 90-minute lesson introduces year 6 pupils to the concept of style in writing. They learn some of the basic writing styles; narrative, descriptive, expositive, persuasive, instructive, and poetic, and they get different writing style samples. Then, for their activity, they practise with some texts, by attempting to identify the style used in each of them; then, they get a 10-minute task of producing a text, using any of the styles they have recently learnt about.
