About This Lesson
At most jobs if you violate the terms of employment you are fired. This isn’t necessarily the case with elected officials who are voted into their positions by the public. Who determines whether or not he/she has violated the terms of office? The Constitution offers instruction for how to impeach or remove a civil official but unclear advice as to when and why the process should be used. This lesson will provide students Constitutional knowledge about the impeachment process, insight into why the Founders chose to leave the determination of “high crimes and misdemeanors’ for future generations to determine, and allow students to make their own conclusions about when the process should be used.
