A peer-reviewed set of evidence-based recommendations for improving the literacy of adolescents in grades 4-12. Explores quality and quantity of evidence to support each claim.
Recommendations: Explicit vocabulary instruction; direct and explicit comprehension strategy instruction; extended discussion of text meaning/interpretation; increase engagement and motivation in literacy learning. Also highlights need for individualized interventions by trained specialists.
