Learning Target: I can discuss and write about the message of a performance

Lesson Overview

  • Do Now: What does unity mean to you? (5 min)
  • Guided Practice: Students vote to watch and discuss ONE of the 15 performances included in the student materials. Teachers and students fill out the CER graphic organizer together (15 min)
  • Group Work: Students choose a second performance to watch independently and complete a CER graphic organizer. Students then participate in "speed breakout rooms" where they share about their performance with classmates. (30 min)
  • Class Discussion: What was the overall message of the different performances? How does this connect to "unity?" (10 min)
  • Independent Work/Check For Understanding: Students choose a third performance to watch independently and complete a CER graphic organizer. (10 - 20 minutes)
