About This Lesson

Unit overview: Two weeks consisting of five, two-hour long classes. The class is Marine Biology and the unit is Intertidal Biology. Intertidal zonation will be discussed. A field experiment in the local rocky intertidal zone will be conducted to explain the topic and provide a chance for students to conduct real scientific research using established protocols. Students get hands on experience identifying the marine organism that they have learned about earlier in the school year. Compilation and analysis of data will be included as part of the experimental monitoring. The next topic will be on human impacts on near shore habitats. Students work in groups to complete and present projects of their choosing.
