About This Lesson

This presentation introduces students to the study of cells. It puts the subject into context by showing some history of cell discoveries and models; starting with Hooke. There are notes accompanying each slide. I am not a biologist and I have been a bit free with some dates - let me know if there are any glaring errors. After discussing this; I give students a glimpse of the cell as we see it nowadays; by showing Harvard's 'The Inner Life of the Cell' (3 min version; on YouTube); an excellent animation showing the workings of a white blood cell. Then we look at cells under the microscope.
