About This Lesson

In this unit, students will become familiar with key grammar skills and convention rules. Students will consider the question: Why is grammar important in writing? Students will take a pre assessment to self assess their level of six key skills. The skills that students will develop are identifying the parts of speech, use independent and dependent clauses, comma usage in appositive phrases and series, correct use of conjunctions, and the use of semicolons and colons. Students will then use this data to select which skills they will focus on for the following classes. Chromebooks will be utilized daily for project based learning. Students will use these grammar concepts to improve their writing techniques throughout the rest of the year. Students will acquire the skill of taking ownership of their own learning by working in stations, independently or with a group. This will be the third unit of the school year so that the grammar vocabulary, rules, and conventions can be referred back to throughout the rest of the year.
