La Receta Unidad - The Recipe Unit for Spanish Class

This unit is built around a project-based-learning experience and assessment. It teaches the content of food and cooking vocabulary in Spanish. It is written for beginner classes of middle or high school students, but can be adapted for intermediate-advanced students as well. The final product that students will walk away with is a video of their group making a recipe from a Spanish-speaking country. The authentic texts that are integrated are modern videos in which native speakers show how to make a recipe. The performance tasks of this project include going on a field trip to a Spanish-speaking supermarket, successfully purchasing the ingredients required for a recipe, and working in a group to record a video making the recipe.
