About This Lesson

In this lesson, students will look specifically at Roman contributions to the legal system. By analyzing short primary source texts of the Roman Twelve Tables, they will connect how our legal system built on the Roman system. They will then develop scenarios in which they show how things might be today had Rome not developed the legal system that it did. Lesson objective: students will be able to interpret Roman laws and describe an imaginary scenario of what would happen today without Roman precedent. Aligned to Common Core State Standards: RH.6-8.2, RH.6-8.1
