About This Lesson

Organisms have a variety of relationships. In this lesson, students learn to categorize relationships according to their impact on organisms and the terminology for these biological interactions, for example, symbiosis. Students brainstorm different kinds of biological interactions. They are then introduced to the terminology that scientists use to characterize biological interactions. To reinforce the lesson, the teacher presents a range of examples from coral reefs. There are several extensions to this lesson for students to explore.
