About This Lesson

Use this PowerPoint to discuss Oliver's motives for helping Nancy e.g. she has had a similar life to Oliver; the is a good person; she doesn't want Oliver to be involved in a life of crime etc. Helpful as a basis for discussing character. Students then rank the motives and use the handout as a 'pie chart' showing her motives. Used for a low ability 7th grade set; could be adapted with less scaffolding for higher ability groups.

A very useful resource with a precise and specific focus on an aspect of Oliver Twist. Nancy is a very important character in the novel and the reader will empathise wth her plight and acknowledge her difficulties. Powerpoint attractively presented.
