About This Lesson

This unit addresses the common core writing standards for writing narrative through exploring the personal stories that students have to tell.  Through this unit, students will explore their emotions, respectful communication, and develop a caring classroom community.  This unit works well as an introductory unit for a class or an interesting end of the year.  Lesson one will introduce the assignment and students will explore self-control.  In Lesson two, students will examine the choices in their lives and explore how self-confidence is developed.  Lesson 3 has students listening to stories and examining the narrative structure.  Lesson 4 works with student drafts and respectful communication.  Finally, Lesson 5 has students performing their finished stories while providing positive feedback to each other. Lessons include differentiation suggestions and resources.  Rubrics and exit slip assessments are provided.

A lot of great resources here! I love the timeline and the graphic organizers; however, I would like to see some direct instruction on specific narrative techniques like avoiding character clash and using dialogue tags. I edited the title and added some standards.
