About This Lesson
Phonics features are short stories that can be read using the phonics-decoding method. Each phonics feature includes six tasks to do before and after reading the short story.
BEFORE the phonics feature
Task 1: Practice the sound that will be featured in the story.
Task 2: Preview words that use the featured sound.
Task 3: Review high frequency/sight words from the story.
Task 4: Learn challenge words and how to decode them.
AFTER the phonics feature
Task 5: Answer comprehension questions by rereading
information from the phonics feature and comparing
it to new information with the featured sound.
Task 6: Circle sounds to spell words from the phonics feature.
