About This Lesson

In this lesson entitled, "Plan and Budget in Google Sheets", students make financial decisions by collecting, organizing, and evaluating data using Google Sheets. They research information about long-term purchases, then organize the data in Google Sheets. They also write code and create and track a budget in a spreadsheet.

  1. Research information about cell phones and plans, then organize the data in Google Sheets.
  2. Research housing options, and write code to calculate the driving distance between two locations in a spreadsheet.
  3. Create and track a budget.
  4. Examine the costs of car loans.
  5. Plan a vacation within an assigned budget.

Technology Skills

  • Utilize a database, such as a spreadsheet, to collect, organize, graph, and analyze data to facilitate problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Apply basic formulas (add, subtract) and advanced formulas (example: using =sumif to calculate costs).
  • Differentiate between formulas with absolute and relative cell references.
