About This Lesson

This Unit Plan follows the CCSS for grade 7 math concept that deal with proportional relationships.  The Unit Plan will cover CCSS 7.RP.2 where students will be able to Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.  The overall flow and pace of the lessons are adapted from the Engage New York Curriculum.

Each lesson is for a 50-minute class period and is generally divided into 3 sections:  Opening (15 minutes), in-class-activity (25 minutes), and Closing activity (10 minutes). Opening includes Hook, Instruction, and Questions.  Hook can be   related to the content at hand or it can be something that’s math related that will draw the student into thinking about math.  Instruction and Questions are going over the day’s lesson through explanations, modeling, or guided practice while answering any questions students might have.  In-class-activity time will include group activates, collaborative time, math lab, and whiteboard time.  Closing activity will generally include exit ticket. Examples were pulled from various sites such as Kahn Academy, YouTube Math channels, Learn zillion, and Authentic Assessment Toolbox by Jon Mueller.
