Using Quad Text Sets (QTS) to Teach for Social Justice and Equity in the ELA classroom  - is a free and publicly available resource co-developed between University of Delaware faculty Dr. William Lewis and Dr. Jill Flynn and Delaware educators Casey Montigney and Taria Pritchett. They developed this resource to support educators in teaching social justice and equity topics in their ELA classroom using the research-based quad text set approach. This resource provides an introduction to the Equity-Focused Quad Text Set Approach, several example quad text sets, and additional support for teachers as they prepare to teach for social justice and equity in the ELA classroom.

The Quad Text Set Approach is a research-based framework designed to incorporate your targeted standards, objectives, themes, and the texts available to you.

If you are interested in more information about teaching Common Core State Standards (CCSS), we suggest Cracking the Common Core: Choosing and Using Texts in Grades 6-12 by William Lewis, Sharon Walpole, and Michael McKenna. This book guides teachers in grades 6-12 to strategically combine a variety of texts--including literature, informational texts, and digital sources--to meet their content-area goals and the demands of the CCSS.
