About This Lesson
Students watch a short film, "Even the Walls" by Sarah Kuck and Saman Maydani, about the residents of a low-income housing development in Seattle, WA, as they prepare for relocation. In this lesson, students examine how the design of housing and neighborhoods can shape one’s experience of community. In classroom discussion, students consider the importance of community in decision-making about low-income housing and urban development. Reflective writing prompts are also included for students to demonstrate their understanding of the story.
