About This Lesson
In this lesson, students will consider a hypothetical rent control ordinance in their town. Each student will be assigned a role from the community, and they will have to testify at a mock city council meeting as their assigned role. For example, a student might be assigned as identity of a retired couple on a fixed income, and they would have to do research to see how a rent control ordinance would affect those people. A select number of students will serve as city council members, in which case they will have to listen to their community's testimonies and draft a decision on the proposed rent control ordinance.
