About This Lesson

Students begin with a “fill in the blank” warm-up that reviews the main ideas from the first lesson. During the launch, students participate in a role play activity to review the different types of ancient Athenian government. During the exploration, students read about how direct democracy was practiced in ancient Athens. Lastly, a class summary and discussion give students an opportunity to discuss their learning and clarify misconceptions. An exit slip can be used to assess student mastery of the major objectives, and the homework is a comic strip.
