About This Lesson

Students begin with a true and false warm-up that reviews the main ideas from the previous two lessons. During the launch, students review key terms and make connections using a kinesthetic word wall activity. Next, students take positions and debate in a Socratic seminar whether or not ancient Athenian direct democracy was fair. A fishbowl protocol is suggested. Lastly, students respond to the same question in a writing prompt, which also serves as an assessment. An optional homework assignment is provided.
