About This Lesson
This project gets teens interested in reading through online fan communities (fandoms) and social media. This document introduces fandoms and the opportunities they present for shared experiences that encourage reading. It describes an event called the "Social Reading Book Fair," that shows teens that their favorite books and stories do not have to be over when they have finished reading them. Online communities surrounding different books fostered by social media can make reading more fun and provoke discussion, and can provide exposure to other books and encourage further reading.
