Through discovery within this project design, students will learn how to identify opportunities for improvement within their communities. The learning targets and the evidence of student mastery for each learning target within each objective will be each student’s advancement through the various activities they perform, being able to specifically identify local agencies and organizations they can partner with. 

Standards

Use conventional spelling for words with common spelling patterns and for frequently occurring irregular words.
Consult reference materials, including beginning dictionaries, as needed to check and correct spellings.
Use knowledge of the meaning of individual words to predict the meaning of compound words (e.g., birdhouse, lighthouse, housefly; bookshelf, notebook, bookmark).
Determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 2 topic or subject area.
Form and use frequently occurring irregular plural nouns (e.g., feet, children, teeth, mice, fish).
