About This Lesson

La Caridad I and II provide 500 megawatts of power for Grupo México's mining activities in the state of Sonora. The combined cycle power plants were engineered, procured and constructed turnkey ready. The plants help Grupo México cut electricity costs in Sonora by 40 percent, and shave 4 cents off the price of producing a pound of copper.Amid the barren mountains of Sonora in Mexico, mining brings work and progress to people with few other options. Electric power is supplied to the mines by two Siemens combined cycle power plants (CCPP).
