So you're doing a dozen or so lessons with a book that's 20 years old and has a main character dying of AIDS, when nowadays most people live with AIDS? And will teachers do close reading of a book with a gay couple as main characters in American schools? Plus School Library Journal didn't think it was very good, and suggested it for grades 4-6, not 6-8. I'm an AFT member; why are you passing this junk off as fresh and new for CCSS?
