This lesson is better if co-taught with a colleague. In this lesson and the supporting material, US government and civics and economics teachers worked to together to model debate and show cross-curricular connections between policy and federal budget concerns covered in economics. This assignment can easily be adapted for any piece of legislation with multiple proposals in it. The resources and accompanying video reflect this lesson using the Build Back Better legislation from 2021. An easy adaptation as legislation and policy change is to use multiple smaller bills/laws.
