About This Lesson
Understanding Size & Scale is a free interactive learning activity for students aged approximately 10–16. Students estimate and compare the sizes of real objects, animals, microscopic structures and astronomical bodies, then use visual comparisons to check their estimates. The activity supports concepts including measurement, ratio and proportion, estimation, powers of ten, scientific notation and orders of magnitude, and includes guidance for teachers.
