About This Lesson

This is a two-week unit plan of instruction. The unit's objective is to understand the definition and role of theme in literature. The goal of instruction for the next couple of weeks is to have students be able to write the underlying message of a text based on inferences from independent reading. They will be reading from “The Odyssey,” developing their own characters, and working collaboratively with another student to create a short story. This short story will have a developed theme which is influenced by the character’s traits. They will also incorporate figurative language techniques previously learned to display their understanding of these elements.
