About This Lesson

The Vikings introduces students to Scandinavia, homeland of the Vikings, whose expertise as sailors and shipbuilders—and fierce raiding spirit—enabled them to trade, conquer, and explore a vast area. Students learn about the voyages of Eric the Red and his son, Leif Eriksson. They encounter Norse mythology, including stories of Odin, Thor, and Loki.

This unit includes a Student Reader, Timeline Image Cards, and a Teacher Guide, providing Guided Reading Supports and the following Additional Activities: map reading exercises, writing in runes, virtual field trips to the Viking Museum and Viking ships, Viking myths, a domain vocabulary exercise, and a Unit Assessment.
