About This Lesson

• A wave is the motion of a disturbance. Waves can be classified by:
 the type of a disturbance – pulse or periodic;
 the nature of the disturbance – mechanical or electromagnetic;
 the relationship between the direction of the disturbance and the direction of the wave – transverse and longitudinal.

• A wave is a form of energy transfer from one point of space (medium) to the other.
 Mechanical waves transfer energy, not matter.
