About This Lesson

An idea to introduce Magnification- In each group; 3 petri dishes containing the following are sealed with tape so the petri dishes can be passed around the group with no spillages:1. Sand2. Soil3. 1 x pipecleaner cut into small piecesUsing the table on the handout; write down what can be seen and then looking through a magnifying glass/ hand lens- describe what can be seen. Takes about 5-10 minutes including asking each group their observations leading into the concept of magnification.
