Cristen Chapman is entering her 26th year of teaching and her 7th year at Hancock College Prep where she is also the Social Science Department Chair. She teaches Sociology, AP U.S. Government and Politics, and AP U.S. History. She also coaches the poetry team, Poetic Justice. She works with Mikva Challenge to enliven student voice and encourage students to see themselves as agents of change in society and the world. Prior to teaching at Hancock, she taught at Prosser Career Academy in the IB Program, worked with students on History Fair, coached the poetry team, and led a student voice committee. Before that, she worked at Roberto Clemente Community Academy as a lead educator in the Math, Science and Technology Academy.
Ms. Chapman is from Rockford, Illinois. She received her Bachelors Degree from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana and her Masters Degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She has been a National Board Certified Teacher since 2010. She just received the James Madison Memorial Fellowship and she will pursue an M.A. in American History starting this fall with Gilder Lehrman/Gettysburg College.
In addition to teaching, she enjoys reading, sewing, playing ukulele, traveling, and fighting for social justice.
