As a Title I teacher in the East St. Louis (Illinois) public schools, I used models and representations to teach mathematics to gifted and remedial students in grades 1 through 6 for more than thirty-three years. While instructing entire classrooms in a computer lab environment, I discovered a unique teaching strategy that supports the math standards and increases students' computer proficiency levels. The activities use common software found on most computers. I presented this strategy for professional development workshops at the St. Clair County (Illinois) Regional Office of Education and now describe it for teachers across the country. Students stay focus and can better communicate the math concepts. Activities may be used with most draw programs.
